Dick’s Sporting Goods to unveil outdoor-focused store concept in Pittsburgh
Dick’s Sporting Goods is set to unwrap its long-awaited new store format that is focused on outdoor activities and land conservation.
The first Public Lands store will open on Sept. 24, at Cranberry Square, in the Pittsburgh suburb of Cranberry Township. The 50,000-sq.-ft. store will focus on helping more people get outside to explore and protect America’s public lands, according to a statement by Dick’s.
Located approximately 20 miles north of Pittsburgh, Public Lands will feature a 30-ft. rock wall, an in-store gear repair and rental department and specialized shops dedicated to various outdoor activities including biking, camping, fishing, paddling, skiing, climbing, running and hiking. The store will carry a premium assortment of outdoor and lifestyle apparel, footwear, and equipment brands, and also support the local outdoor community through conservation and access and equity-based initiatives.
The new store concept will also feature an “elevated” customer service experience that will rely on employees who are passionate about showcasing their love for the outdoors and believe in protecting the country’s public lands for all to enjoy, Dick’s said. One percent of all Public Lands sales will go back into local and national conservation efforts.
Public Lands is headed up by Todd Spaletto, who previously spent three years at Wolverine Worldwide. Prior to that, he spent 14 years at The North Face, including serving as global president from 2011 to 2017.
In other openings, Dick’s Sporting Goods said it opened an additional location of its off-price store concept — Going, Going, Gone! — earlier this month. The store, at Southern Palm Crossing in Royal Palm Beach, Fla., offers discounts of up to 70%.
